IT was on Sept 24 this year when Steve Simon received a phone call out of the blue. It was from the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) board of directors, asking if the 60-year-old would consider becoming the Florida-based organisation's new chief executive.
Just two days earlier, Stacey Allaster had stunned the sport when she announced her resignation as CEO - a position she held for six years - in order to spend more time with her family.
