Retiree Hassan Masod, 67, recalls receiving 20 cents in pocket money during his school days. He made it a point to save five cents, not to spend on toys, but to buy pencils and paper.
"Those items were expensive back then," Mr Hassan recalls. He would spend his time sketching his daily life. "I had no formal training, but I believe I had a gift for drawing," says the father of one.
Two years ago, he held an exhibition of his artworks at the Substation, which received good response. On Aug 24, he will be holding a workshop at community club, Crane, where he will share his life stories and talk about his sketching experience, as well as do a live sketch. Participants will get to do some sketching of their own too.
