Mar 1973 The year our iconic Singapore Girl made her international debut. A year after the split from Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) in 1972, the newly-formed Singapore Airlines (SIA) started expanding its destinations and launched the 'Come Fly With Me' campaign. Fronted by the Singapore Girl, it was to become the airlines' most successful and longest-running marketing campaign. The girls above, from left, Vera Adibrata (Indonesia), Phennie Thavipol (Thailand), Margaret Lin Chu Yu (Taiwan), Celia Tan (Philippines), Ichiki Yasuko (Japan) and Kay Sullivan (Australia), were among the lucky ones picked for the SIA road shows in Paris, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. And they certainly did it in style, wearing the signature sarong kebaya - designed by French couturier Pierre Balmain - which remains the uniform today.
