THE TRADITION OF the decorated Christmas tree at home is believed to have started in the 16th century by Protestant reformer, Martin Luther, who first added lighted candles to a tree.

The tale goes of how he was awed by twinkling stars amidst evergreens, while walking home one winter evening. To recapture the scene for his family, Luther erected a tree in the living room and wired its branches with lighted candles.

In Singapore, there's no shortage of brightly decorated Christmas trees from the mega four storey-tall specimen in Ngee Ann City to the fragrant fresh trees brightening up homes as well.
