IT is a long forgotten episode in Singapore's history, but the intriguing story of Pulau Senang's failed penal experiment in the 1960s finally made it to light, and on stage, through Drama Box's play, Senang.
The island which for three years was a penal colony without walls saw a social experiment which ended in a bloody riot, and the hanging of 18 men accused of being gangsters.
Drama Box's portrayal of the Pulau Senang episode is staged well, with a motley group of characters who are believably fleshed out in Jean Tay's script.
