NUS appoints new dean for Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
THE current dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore, Brenda Yeoh, will be relinquishing the post after six years. Taking over the role with effect from Jan 1, 2017, is 52-year-old English literature professor Robbie Goh, according to NUS in a release on Wednesday morning.
On Jan 1, Prof Yeoh will be appointed NUS' vice-provost for graduate education; she will be responsible for matters relating to masters and PhD programmes including funding, curriculum, strategy and policy.
She has served as dean of the faculty since January 2010. During her tenure, the faculty expanded its range of multi-disciplinary education offerings with new programmes in environmental studies, and global studies.
With the appointment, Prof Goh will be the faculty's 17th dean in its 87-year history. He is an NUS alumnus, and has been a faculty member at NUS since 1988 where he started out as a senior tutor. He has served in various administrative roles in NUS, including as vice-dean of the faculty from 2010 to 2015, and before that as the head of the Department of English Language and Literature from 2004 to 2010.
