THIS year’s OCBC Cycle – the largest cycling event in Singapore – took place over the weekend of May 11 to 12 with close to 7,000 participants over 10 categories.

Alongside its evergreen rides – The Sportive Ride (40 km) and The Straits Times Ride (20 km) – was the newly introduced mass ride category, The Foldie Ride by Brompton (40 km).

The new category attracted more than 1,000 participants, with 60 per cent of them taking part in OCBC Cycle for the first time.

The cyclists had a chance to pedal their way past landmarks such as Benjamin Sheares Bridge, the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay before finishing inside the National Stadium at the Sports Hub.

Making its return for the first time post-pandemic was the Speedway SEA Championship, which welcomed nine teams from various South-east Asian countries including Singapore.

The team from Thailand emerged as the overall winner, while Indonesia and Malaysia came in second and third, respectively.

Helen Wong, group chief executive officer of OCBC, said: “Without the support of all cyclists and their families and friends, the local authorities – the Land Transport Authority and Sport Singapore – and all the partners, OCBC Cycle will not become the Cycling Event of the Year. We will continue to look at ways to enhance the experiences.”

Cycling enthusiasts can continue to look forward to the 100 km Virtual Ride and 500 km Virtual Ride from May 11 to Jun 10.
