Ono, Oh Yes
Lisa Ono sings in a disarmingly low-key manner, yet the purity of her voice always captivates. The Japanese-Brazilian bossa nova queen is back in Singapore with a concert titled La Vie En Rose. She will sing the classic French song along with other popular numbers such as Take Me Home Country Road and Quizas Quizas Quizas. Ono, 57, was born in Brazil but moved to Tokyo when she was 10. The memories of her birth country never left her, and she channels them through her music. In 1999, her bossa nova album Dreams sold more than 200,000 copies in Japan alone, consequently helping to popularise the genre across Asia.
La Vie En Rose - Lisa Ono 2020 runs at the Esplanade Theatre on Jan 4 at 8pm. Tickets from Sistic.
