Oscar Potential
Steven Spielberg's The Post is set in 1971 but it may as well have been set today, given its many present-day parallels and a powerful and timely call for a free press.
The plot is based on the true story of The Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham (played by Oscar bait Meryl Streep) and editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) defying White House orders and risking imprisonment to publish the Pentagon Papers, which exposes a massive cover-up about the Vietnam War.
