THE 57th annual World Press Photo exhibition officially opened at the Raffles Hotel Singapore on Friday night, showcasing 151 award-winning photographs from around the world.
These photographs were selected from 98,671 images submitted by 5,754 photographers as part of the 2014 World Press Photo Contest - also dubbed the "Oscars" of photojournalism.
Top prize went to American photographer John Stanmeyer of the VII Photo Agency, who won World Press Photo of the Year 2013 for his image of African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night, which was taken for National Geographic.
