IF you loved Sonny Liew's best-selling graphic novel The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye, you can now own an original artwork from it.
Liew is selling original comic pages from the novel for between S$200 and S$950 at Mulan Gallery. They come in A3- and A4-size paper and they depict various characters including Singapore's founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, the fictitious cartoonist Charlie Chan and Chan's cartoon creations Roachman and Sang Kucing.
Liew says: "I usually have a hard time selling original art - they do feel like old friends that I want to keep around if I can. I also do so in some vain hope that their value will go up if the book does well in the international market ... But there were quite a few enquiries (for the sale of original pages) back when the book was released, so I hope people won't be disappointed with the pieces that are going up for sale."
