Published in 1962, Anthony Burgess' novel A Clockwork Orange divided the literary world for its no-holds-barred exploration of youth violence. The subsequent 1971 film adaptation by Stanley Kubrick was also controversial and led to the banning of the novel in some US libraries. But critical evaluation of the novel and film has improved considerably since, and both are now regarded as classics of their respective forms. Singapore theatre company Teater Ekamatra has now adapted the text into a Malay play, with iconoclastic director Noor Effendy Ibrahim at the helm. Judging by his track record, one can expect a provocative and unsettling production, performed by a notable cast that includes Rizman Putra and Elnie S Mashari
