Peek into Korea's Joseon dynasty
MUCH of what we know and understand of Korean culture today comes from the Joseon dynasty, the last one to rule Korea. It is also one of the longest ruling dynasties in East Asia, and shaped the modern Korea we know today.
This 505-year dynasty (1392-1897) straddled China's Ming and Qing dynasties and gave Korea its sense of aesthetics, including the Hanguel script.
It is the subject of Joseon Korea: Court Treasures and City Life, which opened at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) last month; and the exhibition is as much for Korean drama fans as it is for real history buffs if you're interested in how the court shaped the culture and left a legacy in modern-day Korea.
