Personal Challenge
Tay Suan Chiang
If your idea of resort fun is running through a rainforest and swimming in open waters, then sign up for The Chapman's Challenge 2019 at Pangkor Laut Resort. The annual race commemorates the gruelling escape of Colonel Spencer Chapman from the Japanese army during World War II, when he hid in the Malaysian jungle for three and a half years. He made his escape by swimming 45m out to sea at night, where he was rescued by a Royal Navy submarine. Participants run 3.8km on undulating roads, followed by a 2.4km rainforest trek and a 1km long open water swim, before a final sprint to the finish line at Chapman's Bar. Cocktails and a beach barbecue await. Prizes include bragging rights and a three night stay at the resort.
