Photo book and exhibition explore life, loss and the resilience of human spirit
The project is in support of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund for young artistic talents in Singapore
A PHOTO book and exhibition capturing the beauty of life through author and photographer Yeo Whee Jim’s eyes will launch on Wednesday (Jan 15).
Titled Moving: Yeo Whee Jim’s Photographs and Reflections, the 192-page photo book and accompanying exhibition feature images reflecting Yeo’s journey with motor neurone disease, a rare terminal illness that affects the body’s muscles.
Yeo has been battling the aggressive, incurable disease since 2022, and has since lost his fine motor skills and the ability to control his limbs.
The images, which were taken during a time when Yeo was physically more able, will be paired with his insights on love, loss and resilience.
The exhibition will showcase 28 of these images, which will also be available for “adoption” with a minimal donation of S$500.
All proceeds from the sales of the photo book and adopted images will benefit The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. Initiated in 2004 and adopted by The Business Times in 2005, the fund aims to foster young artistic talent in Singapore, regardless of their financial resources.

“This exhibition is not just about showcasing my work; it’s about creating a legacy that inspires future generations,” said Yeo. “As I navigate my own health challenges, I hope to instil in my daughter and others the importance of giving back and supporting those who aspire to create. Together, we can build a more inclusive arts community that nurtures talent regardless of background.”
The official book launch and private preview of Moving: Yeo Whee Jim’s Photographs and Reflections will take place on Jan 15, from 7 pm to 8 pm at 10 Square, on the 10th floor of Orchard Central. It will be open for public viewing from Jan 16 to Feb 2.
