Photographic art show gains traction globally
The biennial Singapore International Photography Festival is growing with a total of 1,038 works from 64 countries, writes RACHEL LOI
SINGAPORE'S photography scene has come a long way in the last few years - from the increasing number of photography exhibitions in galleries and museums, to more photography awards, and the rising profile of local photographers both here and overseas.
This growth will soon culminate in October this year, at the fourth Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) - a biennial festival dedicated to advancing and promoting an appreciation of the art form.
One major indicator is that the diversity of countries submitting photographs for one of the festival's main segments - the 4th SIPF Open Call Showcase - has been increasing over the years, says festival director Gwen Lee, who also co-founded the festival in 2008.
