Photography sponsorships bear fruit
This week sees a slew of exhibitions featuring submissions to major competitions organised by corporate sponsors, reports RACHEL LOI
CORPORATE sponsorship for the arts has largely been more visible in the likes of theatre, music or paintings, but of late, big companies are putting money and support behind another form of visual art - photography.
This week sees the fruit of such efforts with a slew of photography exhibitions featuring submissions to major photography competitions organised by such companies.
One of them is the biennial City Developments Limited (CDL) Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA) which was launched in 2006 and caters to photographers aged 13 to 25 ranging from amateurs to professionals. It was initiated by CDL's deputy chairman, Mr Kwek Leng Joo, who also happens to be an avid photographer himself.
