Picture Of The Past
Welcome to BTWeekend's new monthly colouring series, which invites local artists to contribute original heritage-themed drawings that you can colour and keep

You've heard of love letters but how about a love drawing, which is what artist William Sim has done in tribute to one of his favourite neighbourhoods, Tiong Bahru?
BTWeekend invited Mr Sim to kick off our colouring series with an exclusive illustration which captures his favourite memories of Tiong Bahru. "I love the heritage feel of the place, the architecture, and the pleasing pastel colours on the blocks," he says. He comes to Tiong Bahru often to chill out at the cafes, or to check out the book stores.
For this illustration, he has drawn the signature conservation flats, and a dancing sculpture. He's also added heritage elements including gem biscuits, an ice kachang machine and a tingkat. The fish is one of his favourite subjects to draw, while the robot is a metaphor for himself.
