You've seen Barbie dressed in Chanel, as Princess Leia, and even in SIA's sarong kebaya - now how about a Good Morning towel or brown paper commonly used to wrap chicken rice? No, Barbie isn't quite down on her luck in the wardrobe department. Rather, this is part of a special showcase by the Singapore Tourism Board and Barbie as part of the iconic figurine's 60th anniversary celebrations. Some 18 local creative and design brands were tasked to customise outfits inspired by Singapore culture, street culture or other unique ideas. Some of the local creatives and brands involved include accessory artist Heng Kang Yong whose creation incorporates upcycled and unconventional materials, and Onlewo, which dressed Barbie in its signature fabric prints, including Peranakan tile designs. Who knows, it might start a whole new fashion trend of its own.
60th Anniversary Doll Showcase by Barbie and Singapore Tourism Board is on till Nov 30 at *SCAPE, #02-14.
