A play as scientific as it is romantic

AT its basic, British playwright Nick Payne's play, Constellations, is a romantic boy-meets-girl story. But throw in the fact that he's a beekeeper and she works in the field of quantum cosmology, you can expect some sparks there with pretty deep conversations.

In fact, quantum science is the clue to how the play is structured, points out director Bruce Guthrie, a long time collaborator with the Singapore Repertory Theatre, which is presenting this play. He has been directing the Shakespeare in the Park from 2012 to 2015, after his introduction here as associate director of Richard III, the one Kevin Spacey acted in.

Constellations won the best play category at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2012, making 29-year-old Nick Payne the youngest winner of the award. After the London run, Constellations took Broadway by storm in 2015.
