In Praise Of Friendship
Danez Smith is one of the most exciting young poets today. When they (Smith insists on genderneutral pronouns; hence ''they'' and ''their'') gave a spoken word performance at the Singapore Writers Festival last year, several audience members were moved to tears at the rawness of their words and emotions. The African-American poet has now released a new collection of poems titled Homie. These radical and powerful pieces of writing see Smith exulting in the power of friendship to help them through the violence and bigotry they see in the US today.
Homie is available in bookstores.
