Preloved fashion sale raises S$8,045 for charity

A SALE of pre-loved clothes and accessories at the La Putri boutique along Orchard Road last Sunday raised a total of S$8,045 for two charities - The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BAF) and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF).

Shoppers had their pick of curated pre-loved fashion from labels such as Dries van Noten, Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Carven and DKNY. They bought dresses, jackets, tops, bottoms and fine silk scarfs, with every item priced between S$50 and S$100.

"Sustainable fashion - or increasingly termed ethical and slow fashion - is a movement slowly sweeping through the nation, gaining momentum and traction, with multiple headlines addressing the topic in 2019," said Goh Ying Li, who helms La Putri's creative direction.

"It is the time for sustainable style where we foresee an explosion of awareness and more conscious shoppers," she added.

BAF aims to level the playing field and reaches out to children and youth from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, ages six to 19, providing opportunities and access to the arts.

STSPMF provides pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. The fund supports about 10,000 children and youth every year.
