Reimagined Butterfly on a small stage

IS Ramesh Meyyappan the most underrated stage talent in Singapore?
The deaf actor-director has been honoured with two Best Actor trophies at the Life! Theatre Awards (LTA) for his extraordinary performances in plays which he acted in and directed himself. Yet he is nowhere near as well-known as other multiple LTA winners such as actor-director Nelson Chia, actor Adrian Pang and playwright Alfian Sa'at.
One reason for his low profile is that he stages small-scale productions for short runs compared to his more famous peers. His upcoming production titled Butterfly, for instance, will be performed by just three actors and staged from July 17 to 19 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio, a small theatre with a seating capacity of 220.
