Market risk manager Daryl Foo fondly remembers his childhood days, spending time at his grandparents' home, a small house in Kembangan. "I still clearly remember the terrazzo flooring and the fabric sofa," he recalls.
When he was house hunting a few years ago, the 37-year-old decided he wanted an old apartment instead of a brand new one. He narrowed his choice to the Outram area, which, while not as hip as Tiong Bahru, offers good coffee joints and is also where he works.
"Older apartments have more character too," he says of his decision to buy an apartment as old as he is. The deal clincher? The terrazzo flooring in the apartment. "When I saw it, I knew I had to have this apartment. You can't find terrazzo anywhere now," says Mr Foo. Luckily for him, the previous owner had maintained it well.
