Return Of Bon Iver
Helmi Yusof
By now, American singer-songwriter Justin Vernon's lonely sojourn in the woods in 2006 to heal a broken heart and create Bon Iver's first album For Emma, Forever Ago is the stuff of mythology. Yet the band continues to impress music fans by never repeating its past success formulas. The newly released i,i is only the band's fourth album. And it marks yet another new shift in the unpredictable evolution of the band's indie folk sound. Just as its third album 22, A Million (2016) saw surprising elements of electronic music and hip-hop incorporated into its songs, this fourth album continues with the band's experimentation with samples, synths and effects - but done much more delicately and assuredly. The results are often dense and layered cacophonies, with Vernon's voice placed uncharacteristically front and centre on several of the album's best tracks such as Hey, Ma and Faith.
i,i is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
