Japanese films rarely make it to cinemas here but prepare to get your fill at the upcoming Japanese Film Festival. Organised by the Singapore Film Society with Japan Creative Centre, Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation, it will feature 31 films spread over three weeks.
The opening film is One Cut of the Dead (pictured), a low-budget horror-comedy that turns the popular zombie genre on its head. It has become a big domestic box office hit and recently won the Audience Choice award at the Singapore International Film Festival 2018. Director Shinichiro Ueda will meets fans and host a post-screening dialogue.
Also gracing the festival is Wishing Chong, director of Yakiniku Dragon. The film is a big screen adaptation of his 2008 stage production of the same name which focuses on ethnic Koreans trying to fit into Japanese society.
