THERE'S just a fortnight left before we bid 2016 a fond farewell, and sports fans will look back on an action-packed year that has produced more than its fair share of memorable moments. Joseph Schooling rewrote the history books by winning Singapore's first-ever Olympic gold medal in Brazil, a feat that transformed the boy wonder into a national hero. This was undoubtedly a year of upsets, and arguably the biggest one has to be Leicester City's incredible surge to the English Premier League (EPL) championship in May. It was pretty tough to narrow this list to just nine events, but these were the ones - in no particular order - that stood out for me over the last 12 months in the always unpredictable world of sports.
Rosberg retires
After winning his first Formula 1 world championship on Nov 27, Nico Rosberg stunned the racing world five days later by announcing his immediate retirement. The 31-year-old German called it quits because he could not commit emotionally at the same level next season. He won't be regarded as one of the greatest ever drivers - you need to win more than one title to be in that elite category - but he can exit with his head held high. Rosberg finally realised his dream - and no one can take that away from him.
