RWS launches inaugural football clinic with former Manchester United player
Mikael Silvestre trains 30 children from families in need under the People’s Association and SportCares
IT WAS a dream come true for 41-year-old Andrew Lim to see his idol, former Manchester United’s defender Mikael Silvestre, in action on Wednesday (Dec 28).
The former French defender was in town for the inaugural Resorts World Sentosa Charity Football Clinic. Drills were conducted for some 30 children who were accompanied by their parents, including Lim and his son.
The participants, aged between seven and 14, were from families in need. This programme was organised in collaboration with the People’s Association and SportCares, the charity arm of Sport Singapore.
Shawn Lim, head of SportCares, said: “The clinic supports our mission to help vulnerable children to gain confidence through sports. The event also encouraged our beneficiaries to engage in social interactions and teamwork. All these will go a long way in helping to shape their outlook in life.”
At the event, the children learned the finer arts of defending and technical skills such as motor coordination skills and ball control.
Andrew Lim’s son, Ansel, said that he was happy for the opportunity to score goals and learn new football tricks.
