Sailing the high seas in luxury

WHEN the Singapore Yacht Show made its debut in 2011, it had half a tent, a dozen boats and 3,000 visitors. When it celebrates its 10th anniversary in March, it will see more than 100 boats - several of them superyachts - and over 15,000 visitors from around the world. While the novel coronavirus may put a damper on things with fewer visitors from East Asia, the show - regarded as one of the world's best - will go on. In Friday's issue of Weekend magazine, we look at the growth of the marine leisure industry and the luxury appeal of superyacht holidays on the high seas.

Meanwhile, we meet Hyder Alba, the founder of Creative Nation, an organisation which aims to bring creative entrepreneurs together to make a social impact. He talks about creating opportunities for young people that he wished he had in his youth.

We continue our journey to Japan with a driving holiday in Hokkaido - the best way to explore this sprawling prefecture which is so much more than a winter wonderland. Visit during the months of May to October and explore Hokkaido's natural beauty from mountains to primeval forests and rugged coastal areas.
