Sculpting a new future for itself
FIFTEEN years on, Sculpture Square (SSQ) will cease to be anchored to a physical three-dimensional space at the site of the former Baba Methodist Church on Middle Road, as it moves into curating and commissioning.
Theirs was much more than just an arts space, however, as its 15th anniversary book portrays. For 15 years, SSQ tried its best to develop and celebrate sculpture and 3D arts in Singapore, and the 160-page book provides a good review and document of its process.
Sculpture Square - Re:Defining Space is, of course, insufficient to cover over 4,000 days of exhibitions and events that took place at 155 Middle Road, as SSQ Ltd's chairman Richard Helfer notes. "But it chronicles the high points and the low points, charting the aspirations and struggles of the organisation," he shares.
