Sculpture frozen in Time

ON one wall, it is about capturing time in dripping paint. On the other, it is about capturing the electromagnetic pulses of dying stars which, in their last moments, become visible to the human eye.

At first glance though, what you see at Jeremy Sharma's show at the Michael Janssen Gallery will just be walls of flat grey paintings and white wavy foam. Minimalist? Check. Conceptual? Check. Meaningful? Definitely.

Mode Change, Sharma's solo at the German gallery is a culmination and juxtaposition of two bodies of works he has created over the past four years. It could well be the Singapore artist's most exciting show yet - especially as two bodies of work are placed side by side in one gallery, and we aren't just seeing piecemeal works. Sharma's foam works, entitled Terra Sensa-Lovell, were last seen at the Singapore Biennale 2013, while his grey paintings, in a 2011 solo at the Institute of Contemporary Art.
