SEA Games gold medal a silver lining for Singapore golf
Triumph after 28 years and a determined SGA could turn the fortunes of the sport.
IN A year of golfing challenges in Singapore, a long-awaited SEA Games 2017 team gold medal comes as much more than a welcome whiff of fresh air.
In fact, this triumph is the launchpad from which the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) hopes to change the face of golf in the island in the wake of a pall of gloom hovering over the local sport.
Club and course closures and uncertainty about lease extensions have seen the playing population drop with many oldies from closed and soon-to-be-closed clubs giving up the game and taking to indoor activities.
