SGX and AWWA team up to engage children with autism

A GROUP of 10 primary school aged children from AWWA School @ Bedok spent last Wednesday (Apr 26) morning playing sports with volunteers from Singapore Exchange (SGX) Cares.
This activity was part of a wider collaboration between the social service agency and the bourse’s corporate social responsibility arm. The partnership is now into its second year, after a pilot virtual sports workshop for students with autism proved successful.
SGX Cares also ropes in its partners, including the Lion City Sailors Women’s Team, for the events, which take place every Wednesday.
Pol de Win, senior managing director at SGX Group, said the group is “in a unique position to bring together the financial community, to create positive social impact through our resources and time”. De Win is also chairman of the group’s annual charity initiative, SGX Bull Charge.
Both AWWA and SGX expressed interest in continuing this collaboration in the long run, as they believe it can benefit those involved, whether as a student or a volunteer. The former group will improve their ability to “pick up recreational and social skills”, while the latter will “build a sense of compassion, and learn how to interact with people of differing abilities”, said AWWA.
