SGX Cares raises nearly S$132,000 for underprivileged at charity futsal event
SGX Cares – the corporate social responsibility platform of the Singapore Exchange (SGX) – brought the financial community, local football legends and celebrities together on Saturday (Sep 30) to raise almost S$132,000 at the SGX Cares Bull Charge Charity Futsal tournament.
The event, featuring 34 teams including all-women squads and youth players, was held at the former Kovan Sports Centre along Hougang Street 21. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth Eric Chua was the guest of honour.
Among the former Singapore international players who took part were Aleksandar Duric, Malek Awab, Nazri Nasir and Lionel Lewis.
SGX Cares said the funds raised will go towards supporting underprivileged children and families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
In partnership with the Community Chest, SGX Cares will channel all the proceeds to this year’s adopted beneficiaries, which include Autism Association (Singapore), Fei Yue Community Services, HCSA Community Services, and Shared Services for Charities.
Pol de Win, the organising chairperson of SGX Cares Bull Charge and the head of global sales and origination at SGX Group, hailed the tournament as one that allows corporate sponsors, partners and beneficiaries to bond together over sports.
“This is especially meaningful as we mark 20 years of fundraising, which has evolved over the years. Besides our flagship corporate events, we have a number of ground-up SGX Cares initiatives, including colleagues shaving their heads for charity and introducing artificial intelligence to seniors and children through art,” he said.
To round off the 20th year of fundraising, the Bull Charge Charity Run will take place on Oct 27 at the Marina Barrage. The festival village, which was suspended for the past three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will make its return that day.
