The next time you stay in a hotel and take a shine to your room's lamp or other furnishings, don't try to hide them in your luggage. Just buy it, as part of Hotel Indigo's Shop the Neighbourhood programme, and take home unique accessories made by local artisans, or which reflect the neighbourhood the hotel is located.

For example, vintage Muzen radios at Hotel Indigo in Bangkok's Wireless Road are a nod to the street's location as the birthplace of radio in Thailand. In New York, limited edition prints in its Lower East Side property are done by Lee Quinones, an influential artist from the city's subway art movement. In Berlin, a miniature Trabant car - very common in East Germany - makes for a perfect holiday souvenir.
