Showcase of dance in 3 stances
MASTERPIECE In Motion, the Singapore Dance Theatre's annual triple bill of established choreographers, returns with the Singapore premiere of Val Caniparoli's Swipe, described by SDT's artistic director Janek Schergen as a "fast-paced, enjoyable, kick-in-the-head ballet".
Caniparoli, a leading American choreographer, created Swipe by borrowing and blending movements from the classical, modern and contemporary vocabulary, as well as hip-hop. The work itself is inspired by Gabriel Prokofiev, a London-based composer who is the grandson of the late and great classical composer Sergei Prokofiev.
Caniporali says: "I was inspired first and foremost by Gabriel's music, and used all of these dance forms and melded them into my own style. Of course, this work could not be performed by any other than a very strong classically trained ballet company that is also very versatile and open. And SDT is definitely that - the perfect company to be performing Swipe."
