Singapore artists at Venice Biennale
SINGAPORE made a mini splash at the 60th Venice Biennale, with a record number of local artists representing the city-state at the prestigious art event. We spoke to five of them in Venice – Robert Zhao Renhui, Priyageetha Dia, Sim Chiyin, Charmaine Poh and Deepa Khanna Sobti – who shared their thoughts about their works. These mostly deal with topical issues such as human migration and the environment. The remaining four Singaporeans are artist-pioneers such as Chua Mia Tee who is now 93, and the late Georgette Chen, Lim Mu Hue and Lai Foong Moi.
In Friday’s issue of BT Lifestyle, read what the five artists have to say, as well as our report on the mega art show that expects to draw some 800,000 visitors from around the world, with some 87 countries taking part.
Meanwhile, also in Italy, we head to Milan Design Week, where luxury fashion brand Zegna launched a groundbreaking book detailing the family-owned company’s work in sustainable luxury, and its journey towards developing its vertically-integrated production system.
Back home, we stomp our feet to the songs of Hamilton, the rousing musical about America’s founding father Alexander Hamilton, that is currently performing in Singapore.
In Dining, we find out if the oldest pizza maker in Italy – L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele – really makes the best pizzas in town. And in Wine, we take a close look at Rieslings, and what to enjoy this versatile German grape varietal with.
Check this out and more in Friday’s issue of BT.
