THEY may be less than four years old, but these made-in-Singapore brands are getting their fair share of the limelight, shoulder-to-shoulder with traditional luxury brands on the international red carpet.
"Celebrity dressing is highly competitive, with stylists and celebrities vying to out-do each other with exclusive and new pieces and brands. New fashion brands, especially those with a strong design proposition, are seen as cooler than established brands - especially if these new brands are also more difficult to have access to," explains Sharon Lim, former editor-in-chief of Elle Singapore. "These newer brands tend to have smaller production runs and aren't stocked in major stores, so they're viewed as rare commodities."
Brands in Asia are experiencing a bit of a Renaissance, and today's young designers know how to tap the power of social media to gain market presence and awareness.
