    WHEN Urban Hawker opened in New York a few weeks ago, it was perhaps the biggest impact that Singapore street food had made on the international scene. But even though it enjoyed the most buzz, the likes of chicken rice, chilli crab and laksa are not new to food lovers in the Big Apple. Thanks to an increasingly diverse population and more adventurous palates, enterprising Singaporeans based there have built steady businesses, serving the hawker favourites they grew up with.
