SINGAPORE music is seeing a new resurgence as more Singaporeans are buying and listening to local music, said Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Ministry of Communications and Information.
Speaking to the press at Thursday night's rehearsal of Sing50, a celebration of Singapore music organised by The Business Times and The Straits Times, he said: "You can see how Singapore songs have started to grow in popularity again. The Sam Willows' song is now No 1 on iTunes Singapore and is more popular that Taylor Swift's song. That's a big deal! We need to grow the appreciation of Singapore music, and inspire young people to pursue music if they have the talent and passion."
