The 30th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) kicks off on Nov 21 with Anthony Chen's Wet Season at Capitol Theatre and a cinematic feast of 90 films from 40 countries that awaits cinephiles. Homegrown works get a strong showing this year - 17 local films have been selected for screening at the festival including five features and five shorts in the Singapore Panorama section. Among them is Mark Chua and Lam Li Shuen's Tokyo-shot Revolution Laundrette (pictured), which makes its world premiere on Nov 26. The Japaneselanguage film is about a young man and his companion who are convinced their misfortune is part of a bigger, unexplained joke; and that leads them to throw caution to wind as they try to beat it to the punch(line). Revolution Laundrette's cast comprises indie and avantgarde artists and musicians from Japan.

SGIFF runs from Nov 21 to Dec 1 at various venues. For full line-up and ticketing information, check www.sgiff.com.
