British firm Harbeth was founded in 1977 by ex-BBC engineer Dudley Harwood to commercialise the BBC's loudspeaker R&D. The company was then sold to current owner Alan Shaw in 1986 after Mr Harwood retired and today continues to manufacture classic BBC-inspired designs of which one of the most popular has been the Super HL5 Plus.
To commemorate the company's 40th anniversary, Harbeth has released a special edition of the Super 5 Plus this year, available for the first time in a beautiful walnut finish and with several upgraded components.
Audiophiles would be familiar with this speaker's classic "British box" dimensions of approximately 2ft x 1ft x 1ft which are employed by other UK firms also formed by ex-BBC personnel.
