Spanish pride
Manolo Blahnik makes headlines once again - this time with a collaboration with Castaner.
HE IS CONSIDERED one of the world's most revered shoemakers and despite being in the business since 1972, Manolo Blahnik's recent high-profile collaborations (with Rihanna and Vetements) and a documentary on his life Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards shows that he is nowhere near slowing down.
His capsule collection with Castaner is particularly special for Blahnik, a Spaniard who grew up in the Canary Islands. Castaner, a family-owned business founded in 1927, are the original makers of espadrilles. A huge part of Spanish culture, Blahnik himself has grown up with the brand.
The Castañer family - themselves huge Manolo fans - say of the collaboration, "The outcome of this exceptional partnership could not better express our Mediterranean personality, our creative and stylistic richness, and our aspiration to create timeless classics which embody contemporary authenticity and luxury."
