Iranian-born artist and architect Siah Armajani is renowned for his public works, such as the torch sculpture for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge in Minneapolis. Having moved to the US in 1960 when he was 22, the now 80-year-old artist has amassed a fine body of work underpinned by his keen understanding of Middle Eastern and Western aesthetics and philosophy.
Recently, the Walker Art Center held a retrospective exhibition spanning 60 years of his career. Armajani now makes his debut solo in Singapore at NTU CCA Gillman Barracks with a selection of conceptual works. The centrepiece is the installation Sacco & Vanzetti Reading Room which pays tribute to poets, philosopher and political activists.
The exhibition runs from now till Nov 3, 2019 at NTU CCA in Gillman Barracks. Admission is free.
