Special Feature: The Heart of Chianti Classico
From the stable of Frescobaldi Toscana comes Tenuta Perano - the rising star of Tuscan wine
FROM THE VAST, picturesque plains of the Tuscan countryside to the top of Italy's most revered food and wine guide, Frescobaldi Toscano is the name you hear whenever the topic of exquisite Italian wine is discussed. The renowned Frescobaldi is the leading wine producer in Tuscany and one of the most historic and respected in the world. In 2019, it added another feather to its cap when it was named 'Winery of the Year' by Gambero Rosso, Italy's premier authority on wine and cuisine - recognised for its relentless commitment to its craft, heritage and production excellence.
In bestowing its highest honour upon Frescobaldi, Gambero Rosso noted its "success in combining tradition with strategic vision and innovation" as well as its commitment to "bring out the unique qualities of each terroir".
Indeed, that defines the heart of Frescobaldi Toscano, which was founded in the 14th century by a prominent Florentine banking family who became known as a wine producer for the nobility and elite. It is still family-owned and now covers seven distinct estates over some 1,300 hectares of land. Frescobaldi is single-mindedly terroir-driven, producing wines using only the grapes grown in its own vineyards.
