THERE is no better way to immerse yourself in the world of gin than at Singapore’s first full-fledged working distillery. An intimate group of The Business Times readers did just that recently at Brass Lion Distillery, which is also the birthplace of the Singapore Dry Gin.
The participants paid a special price of only S$40 instead of the usual S$81 for the tour; the BT-exclusive experience took place last December at the distillery tucked away at the quiet end of Alexandra.
Upon arrival, the attendees were greeted with a welcome drink before taking part in a hands-on session where they crafted their own version of the Singapore Sling.
With drinks in hand, the group was taken to see Nala, the copper still that is handcrafted by master coppersmiths in Germany. It is here where Brass Lion produces its gin, and the participants learnt more about the distillation process.
The group also got to learn more about the birth of Brass Lion and why founder Jamie K chose Singapore as home to the distillery.
To wrap up the tour, everyone proceeded to the Tasting Room, where they enjoyed a tasting flight of three gins neat. As an extra treat, the participants also received S$5 off selected bottles of gin.
