STAFF volunteers from Standard Chartered Bank took almost 1,000 children from less-privileged backgrounds to the recently opened Bird Paradise, Asia’s largest bird park, before the school holidays ended in June.

The children, mostly aged between seven and 12 years, came from families that were receiving assistance from the Ministry of Social and Family Development under its ComLink initiative, and from other agencies such as Awwa.

The initiative was part of the bank’s aim to promote social inclusion and create a better community through volunteerism.

“Employee volunteerism is an important priority for Standard Chartered Bank,” said Patrick Lee, the bank’s cluster chief executive in charge of Singapore and Asean markets.

He added that, in 2022, more than 3,000 employees supported various local community causes, in areas ranging from the environment and women’s empowerment to children and youth.
