[SINGAPORE] This year’s Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) – the only World Athletics Gold Label Race in South-east Asia – will sport a brand-new look and be held over two days instead of the usual three.

For the first time in the event’s history, the half-marathon and marathon will be held on separate days.

The 21.1 km half-marathon takes place on the morning of Dec 6, followed shortly by the 5 km event and the Kids Dash.

The 42.195 km marathon will be flagged off on the morning of Dec 7, along with the Ekiden relay race. The 10 km run will also be held that day.

Jeff Edwards, the managing director of Asia for SCSM organisers The Ironman Group, said in a statement on Tuesday (Apr 15) that these changes were a result of efforts to improve the overall race experience and create an environment where runners can perform at their best.

“These adjustments, which have been thoughtfully planned, are aimed at creating a smooth flow throughout, to ensure the best possible race experience for our runners, and allow for more runners than ever before to be a part of this event,” he said.

Last year’s SCSM attracted over 55,000 runners from Singapore and more than 80 other countries. The organisers expect the two-day format to allow for even more runners to take part.

The organisers said in the statement that participation in the marathon and half-marathon categories grew by 31 per cent and nearly 46 per cent, respectively, over the past three editions from 2022 to 2024.

Details of the full route, finish line and road closures will be announced closer to the event. The organisers would only say that the marathon would take place along a “scenic route” that showcases Singapore’s “stunning landmarks”.

Last year’s finish line was the historic Anderson Bridge near the Padang.

    Giving back

Title sponsors Standard Chartered said they will offer 200 complimentary race slots to volunteers and running enthusiasts from various community organisations, including Special Olympics Singapore.

The bank’s employees who sign up for the marathon will also be able to make donations to Futuremakers, Standard Chartered’s global youth economic empowerment initiative.

Parents who sign their children up for the Kids Dash can also gift a slot to children from the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s ComLink+ programme, which supports lower-income families.

Standard Chartered’s CEO for Singapore and Asean Patrick Lee said: “Sport has the power to unite people from different parts of our community, and this year, we are deepening our efforts to ensure SCSM 2025 is even more inclusive, not just for runners, but for the wider community as well.”

Public registration for this year’s SCSM starts on Wednesday. The “super early bird” prices are S$137 (marathon); S$115 (half-marathon); S$93 (10 km); S$71 (5 km); and S$44 (Kids Dash). The fees for the Ekiden relay race are S$545 for a team of four. More details can be found on the official website.
