Star-studded chef Andre Chiang calls it quits

BARELY three months after retaining his two Michelin stars for the second year in a row, Singapore's best known chef, Andre Chiang, is calling it quits.

In a long email released to the media and F&B industry early on Wednesday morning, the Taiwanese-born, Singapore permanent resident announced that he would be closing his eponymous Restaurant Andre for good after its last service on Valentine's Day 2018. He said that he had decided to "re-prioritise my professional life from early next year" and wanted to return his Michelin stars and requested not to be included in next year's guide. With Michelin said to have plans to enter Taiwan, he also indicated his wish that his restaurant RAW in Taipei not be included in that version either. But Michelin stars are non-negotiable, and only lapse if a restaurant closes. Nor can a restaurant choose to be included or not.
