Fashion is going through a weird "ugly" phase. Will designers grow out of it?
BRACE YOURSELF. THE GOOD, THE bad and the ugly of 90's fashion are back with a vengeance, permeating the past few seasons as the fashion clique - particularly the Gen-Z crowd - devour the fashion mistakes of that era and repackage it for their wardrobes today.
While those who were teenagers during that decade would cringe at some of the things they wore then, the younger generation - led by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid - are actually championing them. Designers seem compelled to feed this fascination, reviving old trends and trying to apply them to the present day. There are some hits - teeny weeny sunglasses, cargo denims, monogram bags - but there are even more misses.
Topping out the list are the "Dad trainers" by Vetements - the fashion pack's go-to "anti-fashion" brand founded by game changer Demna Gvasalia - which have been selling out online. The "Ugly Trainer" is now a bona fide trend, so expect to see chunky, clumsy-looking sneakers on the feet of young trendsetters.
